Icicle Pickles:
- 1 gallon cucumbers
- 2 quarts boiling water
- 1 cup salt
Cut cucumbers in strips, add boiling water and salt,let stand 1 week. Drain, then pour over the cucumbers 2 quarts boiling water and let stand 24 hours. Drain, then pour over the cucumbers 2 quarts boiling water and alum the size of 1/2 egg, let stand 24 hours. Drain, boil 1 1/4 quart vinegar, 4 pints sugar, and 1/2 hand full of mixed pickleing spices. Pour over cucumbers and let stand 24 hours. Drain and reheat vinegar mixture 4 more mornings. Pour vinegar mixture back on cucumbers each morning. Put in jars and can the 4th morning.
